2007.6.6: Things are getting exciting! The pipe coming out of the house is connected to the tank, and they're back filling. The mounds of dirt up top are disappearing, going back into the trench.
We were left with a lot of rock, however. Lee hit a concentrated area of petrified wood. We're guessing there was an old hand-dug well in the spot, that when abandoned, was filled with rock and garbage. Besides the rock, Lee dug up broken bottles, china, crockery, animal bones (as in plate scraps), rusted pipe, nails, plate glass, an old sad iron. Being handy with the bucket as he is, he sorted the rocks and pipe out as he dug, piling the junk to the west and good dirt to the east.
We asked Grandpa Joe if he was aware of an old well in the area, and he said no. When he moved onto the property in 1922, there was no such well. So, it must have been prior to then.
